Responsibilities:
  • Provision of security for the Governor General
  • Provision of security and sentry duties at Government House (governor general’s residence)
  • Other security related duties
  • Supporting the Governor General as she carries out state functions
  • To attend to the Governor General at all official functions both home and away from Government House.
  • Receive Ambassadors and High Commissions on presentation of their Credentials.
  • Receiving and announcing guest to Government House and ensuring they are entertained and seeing them off.
  • To hold staff meetings from time to time and also make checks on station diary, firearm register and all other log books associated with the operation of Government House.
  • Supervise and co-ordinate duties with both the Police and Civilian staff.
  • Ensuring Government House is properly maintained.
  • Co-ordinate arrival and departure of the Governor General to all official functions.
  • Organize both Itineraries and co-ordinate protocol activities.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Governor General from time to time.
 
Opening Hours: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
 
Functions of the Department:
  • To provide 24 hour Sentry Duty at Government House.
  • To provide security with service to and from functions to the Governor General.
  • To assist with service whenever there are functions at Government House.
  • Ensuring that there is always a safe environment for the Governor General.
 
Services Provided:
  • Reading of the Throne Speech which is in effect an outline of the Government’s proposed legislative programme for the immediate years ahead.
  • Investing those persons who would have been honoured for outstanding services to the country.
  • Accepting the credentials of Ambassadors accredited to Grenada.
  • Receiving overseas dignitaries who pay courtesy calls on the Government.
  • Participating in important roles in National Celebrations.
  • As ceremonial Head of State, lending support to Non-Governmental Organizations and other institutions of the country.
  • Attending and addressing conferences, school graduations and other important meetings.
