Responsibilities:
This unit is the para military arm of the Royal Grenada Police Force.
The functions of the unit are:

Local, regional and international Operations training

Internal and external defense.

National emergency response

Regional security matters
-
Provision of security services for high risk police operations

Protection of heads of state
The Special Services Unit (SSU) is the Para Military Unit of the Royal Grenada Police Force which was established in April of 1985. The Unit motto is “Dedicated to Serve and Protect with Dignity and Confidence”. The SSU vision is to become the number one SSU in the Regional Security System (RSS) by the year 2025. Our mission is to provide the highest level of professional service to the general public by partnering with the community.

To provide support for divisions/departments when the situation is overwhelming

Over the years, the Special Services Unit has embarked on a number of community projects, namely:-

Housing assistance to needed persons

First aid training to schools and other public and private sectors

Physical fitness training for the public

Training for the Grenada Cadet Corps

SSU Boys and Girls Clubs
Finally, the SSU also partner with other departments of the Royal Grenada Police Force and RSS Member States to maintain Law and Order. We are a part of the Caricom Disaster Relief Unit and mobilization team to respond to disasters throughout RSS and Caricom States. Our most recent deployment was in 2017 in Dominica and Tortola after the passage of Hurricane Erma and Maria.
